Student Practice Reflection - Self-Evaluation 3

3A) MY CHALLENGES/ AIMS FOR THE FUTURE What are the areas I still have to work on? What is my action plan? What/who will help me to achieve my goals? There is always a long way to go. I will study professional knowledge industriously to construct a stable foundation for myself. I have learnt a large number of wonderful ideas, but I have not had the chance to try them out in my class yet. And looking back on my practicum retrospectively, I would like to improve my skill in time management, which was usually mentioned by my mentor. Sometimes, students came into the classroom late so the time of the lesson was decreased. Therefore, I would like to be more flexible in this respect. I would be more firm with time, and I am thinking about using the timer in the class so both students and I are aware of it. I will search on the Internet and read more. Probably, I can conduct another action research if possible. Without any doubt, every individual who is around me can be conducive to my goals....

Webinar 6: “Authentic materials in education” - by Paulina Andruszkiewicz-Glińska

Image
“Authentic materials in education”                       by Paulina Andruszkiewicz-Glińska On the16th May 2022 (MONDAY) between 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m, we had a webinar with Ms.  Paulina Andruszkiewicz-Glińska again  about authentic materials in education.  We usually have textbooks in our teaching but sometimes the content may be outdated because languages are changing and if the textbooks have not been updated for a long time, some of the content may not be suitable to teach and learn anymore. Also, authentic materials can make learning more meaningful. Students can learn the expressions that are used in the real world. What is more, different authentic materials have various purposes for students to learn. For example, real life pictures and instructions from different context are worth using because these materials are likely to be read for specific information and they are feasible to reach. While select...

2A) ATTITUDE TOWARDS PUPILS Can I maintain classroom discipline? Am I respectful and kind towards all pupils? Do I correctly recognise and assess pupils’ skills and needs? Do I differentiate instruction according to pupils’ individual profiles? Actually, the maintenance of classroom discipline is the area that I still need to work on, though it was not that bad. Previously, I was authoritative when I was teaching in my own country, and students were disciplined. However, this time it was totally different but finally, I got used to this new type of learning environment, which is student-centred. Students are aware of their learning, so they are brave to ask questions. At first, I saw them walk to the teachers directly when they have questions or they simply shout out their questions. In my teaching, I tried to model for them. When it was time for them to answer or ask questions, I usually raised my hand to remind them of raising their hand. And I think it worked well and helped me main...

8. Pronounce the 100 Most Common English Words PERFECTLY | British English Pronunciation

Image
Today I watched a video called "Pronounce the 100 Most Common English Words PERFECTLY". It is inspiring, though I have some concerns and doubts. In this video, 100 common words were read by Lucy clearly. The words presented in the video is of vital importance because they are used in our daily life quite often. Also, almost all of them are sight words, which means the video can be used to teach young learners litercy in reading. Next, homophones were brought up in the video, so it can be a good video to help teachers transit to the topic naturally since it has been already there.  Here are my concerns. In the video, the phonetic transcription of the word "at" is the light version  /ət/ instead of  /æt/ which is the strong version. And as for the pronunciation of the word "who", which sounds like  /hjuː/ to me.  In conclusion, it is a well-recorded video with every single word enunciated well. Although I have my own concerns and even questions, it is worth ...

1A) MY POTENTIAL AS A TEACHER My professional attitude. Am I interested in entering the teaching profession? What are my attempts to perform competently? Am I creative and flexible? Am I mature enough to work in this profession? (work under pressure, accepting criticism, being open to others’ needs) Firstly, I was unsure and unconfident because I have not ever taught in an international before. Though I had the experience of teaching at a training school for a summer camp, they are not the same. However, the observation helped a lot in my acquaintance with the context, which dismissed a part of my fear of teaching. After the practicum, I am more enthusiastic about the profession. I attempted to put what I have learnt from my studies into practice, which helped my classes go on the right track. I am always trying to be creative so I always try to explore more on the Internet and apply possible techniques and materials to my class. I suppose I am flexible as well. I can keep calm i...

Student Practice Reflection - Lesson 5

Image
Student Practice Reflection - Lesson 5 Today I had the last whole lesson teaching of my practicum. I felt both happy and unhappy. I was content because it was my final lesson and I could finish my practicum in 45 min. Then I could have more time to deal with my studies at the university. I was a bit sad because I will miss my students, my mentor teacher and other people I saw at the school.    The topic of the lesson is China Sichuan Opera. It was supposed to be relaxing; however, some of them did not concentrate on the class, though I was attempting to get them back by approaching them and pointing to the place where we were talking about from the material. The material was easy for some of them, so these students were very active and, without any exaggeration, they could not wait to answer all of those questions. However, I would like to give all of them a chance to speak. After reading and finishing answering questions, students were given a video to watch. They under...

Student Practice Reflection - Lesson 4

Image
Student Practice Reflection - Lesson 4 Today I did not feel anxious like what happened last time. Also, I slept well last night. My professor came to observe this lesson as well, but my performance was not influenced. I was enjoying my teaching as well as my students. The topic was magic tricks. It was quite dynamic and so many things happened. I showed students two pieces of magic tricks to start the lesson. One of them was about changing the position of a rubber band on my fingers, and the other trick was too obvious for some of the students and they questioned the trick, which made me embarrassed for a moment. However, after that everything went well as I predicted. The only thing that could be improved is that it should be more flexible in using materials because it was the first class of the day and it usually starts late, which made the lesson shorter. Sometimes, maybe it is better to cut into the topic directly , so the class may run smoothly within the limited time, and th...
