Student Practice Reflection - Lesson 3
Student Practice Reflection - Lesson 3
After a while came the third lesson of the day. It was the last lesson of the day. To be honest, I was exhausted because I taught three different lessons during that day, which means I had to remember a lot of different things in my mind so that my lessons could be organized and go smoothly. It was about weather and extreme weather for the science topic. They were supposed to take their science notebook, but some did not have them. I asked them to take their portfolio instead but the mentor teacher then asked them to take their English notebook, so it was not consistent, which made students complain about it a little bit.
In the lesson, there were a lot of teachers but I didn’t feel I was stressed. I elicited the words that I needed from the students and wrote them on the board. We talked about the weather in general, and students were asked to look out of the window and told about the weather in general. Then, inclement weather was brought up by using a short video clip from Harry Potter. Students were asked to associate some scenes with extreme weather. Though the students expected me to allow them to watch the whole movie in class, I explained to them patiently that they were not supposed to watch the movie. More extreme weather events were added by using pictures. Later they were supposed to discuss the ingredients of those types of extreme weather. Some students did not get the point and I had to explain them one by one. My mentor teacher also suggested after the class I explain to them on the board clearly next time. I did not finish the entire content that I prepared for them but most of it was done successfully so I am also satisfied. I also came up with an idea after class. Next time, when encountering in a similar situation, I will just ask students to do different ones in groups, so later on there will be time to check the answer. After the whole lesson, one student came to me and hugged me. At that moment, all tiredness disappeared suddenly, and I felt completely relieved.
In a nutshell, I am content with the lesson. It was a big success for me to teach at an international school teaching based on the CLIL approach. Also, I was proud of myself for teaching 3 different lessons in a row. I felt I became more and more confident as well.
