Student Practice Reflection - Lesson 2
Student Practice Reflection - Lesson 2
After their lunch, I taught math for the first time. I felt better physically. It is usually hard for students to calm down after lunch. Some of the students came late so I was waiting for them to start the lesson, which means the time of the class was shortened. I felt worried because I was well prepared to expect their enjoyment of the math lesson which was collected with magic, but they were not ready yet for the class.
I started the lesson by asking them questions from the multiplication table. They thought it was easy, and I was happy to hear that. To be honest, they did well apart from one student. She forgot the table. Then, I asked her for another simple one, and she answered it correctly. Later I gave them some difficult ones on the board. I gave them six, which I thought they could handle easily. However, some of them did it fast and I gave them new ones, but it took some of them quite a lot of time. Therefore, I asked them to finish those easier questions at first because I did not have time for them and I had to give them the most interesting part of the lesson. Then, I decided to give my worksheets to those who finished quicker. Once they finished their math questions, I gave them my worksheets for them. I had two worksheets for them. They were separated into pairs. When they had questions, they came to me and ask. The second magic trick was more challenging because the language was more complex, so I explained it to each pair after I gave the worksheet to them. Fortunately, it went well. They were engaged in the math magic tricks I prepared for them. I was very happy. They were still talking with each other about the topic after class. They even asked me if their counterparts in class 4b would have the same activity. And I answered them honestly that only they had it because I had my practice in the specific class. They felt unique and even more happy to do it.
Overall, it was successful. I was proud of my students and myself for doing a great job in teaching math for the very first time. It made me more confident in teaching math in the future.
