Student Practice Reflection - Lesson 1

Student Practice Reflection - Lesson 1

It was my first CLIL lesson at the international school. At first, I was really stressed out and I even did not sleep well the night before. I woke up so early, though the lesson starts at 10:20. I would remember my body was trembling a bit at the very beginning of the lesson.

In the first lesson, we had magic in fantasy (Harry Potter as an example). We learnt about five places from where J.K. Rolling got the idea of writing the book. I introduced the lesson with the word "abracadabra". Students were asked to get the topic based on the word. They answered me with "the Lord of the Rings" and “Harry Potter”. After knowing the topic, they were very pleased and they talked with each other. It was a bit difficult to stop them. They were very active because they are interested in the topic.

Some vocabulary was taught at first by using Wordwall. However, the speed of the video was a little fast for students. And they asked for subtitles. Fortunately, the subtitle worked out. After that everything went well. Students were attentive in the lesson and they answered questions actively. We had some True/False questions. As usual, I asked them to read the sentences and predict answers. By doing so they knew what they were supposed to listen to from the video. They did it well.

In a nutshell, it was the first success on that day. It made me more confident in the next two lessons on the day in the afternoon.
