Student Practice - ERROR MANAGEMENT

Image
ERROR MANAGEMENT Observation date: 21/02/2022 In my opinion, error management is quite sensitive because it is a double-edged sword. In other words, when learners are willing to accept corrections, it reinforces the process of learning. On the other hand, if Ss harbour a negative attitude about it, it will destroy the confidence of learners. From the observation, I noticed that T occasionally corrected Ss, especially when they made common mistakes that their classmates had the same. Usually, Ss had grammatical mistakes, which were corrected by T. During the homeroom hour, Ss were supposed to talk about their weekend, which means they needed to use past simple tense. When Ss made mistakes in terms of tense, they were corrected by T. For instance, a student said "I wake up...". Then, T corrected them immediately by saying "I woke up...". Lastly, the student repeated what the teacher said. There was more the same kind of grammatical mistakes, which were corrected in ...

Student Practice - TEACHING MATERIALS

Image
TEACHING MATERIALS observation dates: 17/02/2022, 18/02/2022 Teaching materials are significant in class as they influence the process of teaching and learning. If they are too easy and too difficult, Ss will be bored and depressed during the course of learning. Also, there are numerous types of materials, such as coursebooks and other materials designed by T.  In the UOI class, T checked Ss' homework by using the worksheet about past simple tense which had been used on the previous day in 5 minutes. And a short revision was made by using worksheets as well. It was made by T and enabled Ss to review what they have learnt recently. I liked it very much in that it contains various tasks, and Ss can even relate some sentences to their teachers. For example, Liu comes from China. Sofia comes from Greece. Liu and Sofia refer to their teachers, so Ss can quickly relate to them. Also, in task 4 Ss were asked to listen to T carefully. It required them to be focused henced their list...

Student Practice - TEACHER TALK – STUDENT TALK

TEACHER TALK – STUDENT TALK Observation date: 15/02/2022 Today is a bit different. The English class was shorter than usual, but I observed some other classes such as math and another class which is about a teacher who has the experience of migration. The topic of my observation for today was challenging for me as well. I previewed the questions and instructions in the observation worksheet. However, I felt it was difficult for me to focus on both Ss and T. Also, it was hard to choose who to observe. I discussed with the mentor teacher about whom to observe, but I thought I did not make the best choice because the students behaved differently than usual. And I attempted to observe one more pair. Students: The first pair: I thought Pupil A is a prime example of a very active student; nonetheless, the person behaved abnormally somehow these days. The person was not very active today and was not fully concentrated, either. When asked to answer a question, the person was trying to fi...

Student Practice - INSTRUCTIONS

Image
INSTRUCTIONS Observation date: 14/02/2022 Today was quite special because it was the first day after two week's winter break. The children behaved unexpectedly. They were energetic and distracted. Probably they needed to revise classroom rules as well since they perhaps forgot about them in class, and they were not that disciplined the whole day. This made me think about another point that children may behave differently every day. We, teachers, should probably try to consider it. During the first day of the new semester, I would give them some active games for fun instead of a lot of content to enable them to get accustomed to the school environment once again if I were the teachers who taught on the day. In most of the classes, T did not take the register but T observed the whole class at the commence of the class. T also observed each student carefully when they came into the classroom. By doing so the time was saved. Previously, I had the chance to see how the teacher take the...
