Classroom Management            Reflection on the 1st webinar: Classroom Management in young learners’ English classes                                    -by Paulina Andruszkiewicz-Glińska on 24th November 2021 It was really fantastic to have an online webinar on the topic of classroom management. Although the topic is not new to me, I learned much not only theoretical knowledge but also ways of practical operations. In the webinar, the presenter showed us all her priceless collections based on her research and hands-on experiences. I loved the two keywords ( distractions and disruptions ) she gave because it is exactly what classroom management aims at paying attention to. When she mentioned classroom rules, she used examples that almost everyone could relate to. It made me think about my previous studying experience and reflect on my teaching experience as well. She...

Lekcja języka angielskiego - Dąbrówka

General reflection 👇 It is a 34-minute complete lesson. I buried myself in watching it and I enjoyed it quite a lot. Students were engaged and the class was well-organised as well. Though from my perspective, there were things that could be done better, it is a constructive class in  Vocabulary  teaching. However, there was a picture book that was used to do storytelling. Hence, there was a bit of  Reading  in the class. Therefore, it was a little perplexing about the aims of the class. Is it a Vocab lesson about  colours and numbers  or a Reading lesson? Or it was the beginning of a Reading lesson so that the teacher used plenty of time to introduce topic-related words. If so, I like the idea of drawing a teddy bear and spider with different moods, which was used to teach some adjectives and tell the story about a witch and her cat. A screenshot from the video I appreciate her control of the class, especially when she asked the students to move from their...

Unit 6: Primary: Young Learners

Image
Unit 6: Primary: Young Learners In this video, the teacher presents a grammar lesson using "the rainforest" as the guiding theme (content area). She used movement, singing, colour, and repetition to engage students and to reinforce grammar points and vocabulary. The teacher used pacing and a variety of activities to keep the students engaged and the lesson moving forward. They were second graders, who were arranged in groups of four. They behaved quite well in class, which helped the teacher to conduct the lesson smoothly. They were focused and polite. In the Warm-up, the teacher used a water circle song with which they were familiar to introduce the topic. Though the vocabulary is complex, such as evaporation, condensation and precipitation, Ss managed to pronounce them. There were more than only three advanced lexeis, which were beyond the level of most of their peers. I liked the way how the teacher checked or helped students to understand the vocabulary and grammar point...

ESL - Teaching English in China: Grade 1 ( Demo lesson)

Image
ESL - Teaching English in China: Grade 1  The recorded lesson is a 14-minute video, which contained around 20 students in Grade 1 of a primary school in China.  The whole lesson was well-organised, and the teacher  had great energy and controlled the room very well. All of the kids listened to her, and they seemed to enjoy the lesson. Ss firstly got ready by cleaning the desks and prepared the necessary stuff for the lesson with a song, which they were familiar with. Interestingly, the song must have been used many times because one student said "the song again?".  I can see some traditional elements of the class of China-Students stand up, bow, and sit down to greet the teacher. I have not seen it in some other countries yet, so I think it is the Chinese tradition. Before the real aim of the lesson, which is the sentence pattern "What do you do in the morning?", T helps Ss revise the class rules by eliciting. I liked the point the most because they are young ...
